About Sue Hourigan

Sue lives in the border town of Corowa on the Murray River in New South Wales, Australia.

Sue always enjoyed drawing as a child and took up painting in her adult years.  She hasn’t looked back.

Sue is a passionate and dedicated artist focused on creating traditional realistic artworks in the most exciting and vibrant way by engaging the viewer through application of fine art principles and techniques in her own unique style.

Sue has been painting for over 35 years and has reached a level with her art where she is capable of tackling any subject.   She works in a number of art mediums including oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolour, graphite and pencil.

Sue followed a technical career path, graduating as an engineer and working in technical roles for all of her working life.  She believes that this has held her in good stead with respect to her ability to achieve technical accuracy in her artworks.  Sue worked part time in her latter working years to make more time for her real passion, and is now retired, allowing her the luxury of spending more time at the easel!

Sue has become well known as an accomplished artist in northeast Victoria and southern NSW.  She is a member of the Bright Art Gallery, completed a two-year artist residency at Art Gallery on Ovens in Wangaratta, and has exhibited and sold her works at various local art shows over the years, winning numerous prizes and highly commended awards along the way.  More recent awards include Best in Show at Bright Autumn Art Show 2026,  Best Oil in consecutive years at the 2023 and 2024 Bright Autumn Art Show, as well as Best Pastel in 2021.  Sue also won the $750 Pastel prize at the 2024 King Valley Art Show and Best Pastel at St Bernard’s art show in Wangaratta in Nov 2023.  Her works can also be viewed at Carlisle Art in Benalla as well as on her web site. Many of her paintings are now sold as commissioned works.
